How does the paraphraser work?
Zyphh suggests focused edits to common English expressions. The engine finds specific English constructions and proposes direct swaps: "in order to" becomes "to," "make a decision" becomes "decide," "utilize the" becomes "use the." Each suggestion shows the original, the replacement and the reason.
You get three styles. Clear uses simpler phrasing. Natural does the same and adds selected contractions. Formal expands contractions and uses a small set of formal expressions. It's a conservative editor rather than a generative model, so it can't restructure a paragraph or understand every context. When no rule matches, your passage comes back unchanged.
Does it just swap in synonyms?
No. A word can mean several things, and a dictionary swap can make a sentence awkward or change its claim. The rules go after specific expressions and limited grammatical forms instead of replacing every word. Capitalization is preserved for supported forms, and each edit is applied to the original text only once.
Antonyms are off the table: turning "increases" into "decreases" reverses the claim. Even a sound synonym needs your review, since specialist wording, emphasis and tone can make the original the better choice. You can switch off any single edit or reset them all without losing your source.
What does the paraphraser leave alone?
Quotations, inline and fenced code, URLs, email addresses, Markdown links and citations are excluded from matching, and so are several heading and code-line patterns. These protections are pattern-based, so they can miss an unusual document format or a proper name.
Before a revision comes back, the tool compares numeric strings by occurrence count, and the rules never replace existing numbers. That check can't verify units, relationships, implied quantities or whether the meaning survived. Read the result for grammar, names, negation, facts, citations and emphasis before you copy or download it. The guide to paraphrasing without changing meaning walks through that review.
Does rewriting change who wrote the text?
A rewrite changes wording and leaves the history alone. If AI generated a passage, applying these rules won't erase that. A human-written passage that goes through the tool is still human-origin writing with algorithmic edits. Follow whatever attribution or disclosure rules apply to your work.
A detector score may shift after an edit, but that guarantees nothing. This tool doesn't optimize against detectors, and it can't certify that a statistical watermark is absent. If you're experimenting, keep the original and the edit log so the transformation stays inspectable.
What can I upload, and how do I save a revision?
Paste a passage or upload a PDF, Word DOCX, TXT or Markdown file up to 10 MB. Text-based PDFs can have up to 100 pages. The editor accepts 20 or more characters, up to 1,000 words and 20,000 characters. For a longer document, choose the section you want to revise.
Your source remains in the input panel while the revision updates as you accept or reject edits. Copy the finished revision, download a text file, or export a report with the edit list. Review the wording and facts before using the result.
